Borax-Free Laundry Detergent

I started making my own detergent because everything is so expensive, and making your own detergent I find is so much cheaper. With inflation increasing the price of everything, I can make many months' worth for so much less. The Oxi-Clean powder is probably the most expensive but I'm a healthcare worker who needs very clean scrubs.

For reference, I have a top-loading washer but since there's no borax I don't see why it wouldn't work for any other washer.

Ingredients:

1 bar Zote soap, grated

1 bar Fels-Naptha stain remover, grated

1 cup super washing soda

1 cup baking soda

1 cup Oxi-Clean powder

1/2 cup citric acid (softens fabric)

Instructions:

1) Grate the Zote soap bar and the Fels-Naptha bar in a large bowl. I use a hand grater for only this purpose. You probably could use a food processor but I haven't tried this.

2) Add the remaining ingredients and stir to combine

And that's it! Use 1/4 cup for small-medium loads, 1/3 cup for large-extra large loads, and 1/2 cup for heavily soiled loads
